PRESS RELEASE
Senator Verschoor Formally Announces for State Treasurer
February 14, PHOENIX - Republican Senator Thayer Verschoor
(R-22) of Gilbert today announced his formal candidacy
for Arizona State Treasurer. Verschoor, husband to Carla
and the father of five, and an 82nd Army Airborne decorated
veteran, has been serving his fellow citizens his entire
adult life.
"In these challenging times for all Arizonans,
it is important that they have a protector of their
tax dollars who has demonstrated leadership in fighting
for smaller government and economic growth. Senator
Verschoor is the one candidate for State Treasurer who
has fought for Arizonans' financial safety and security
in the same manner that I have fought for their physical
safety and security and I am proud to endorse him for
Arizona State Treasurer," stated Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Verschoor’s career has been defined by his consistent
conservative fiscal leadership. As a result of his stellar
record of advocacy for the taxpayer in the legislature,
Verschoor has received the Friend or Champion of the
Taxpayer designation every year of his service. His
unparalleled record of leadership has resulted in his
being honored with the highest awards from the Arizona
Federation of Taxpayers, Goldwater Institute, Chamber
of Commerce, Arizona League of Cities and Towns, Americans
for Prosperity and the PAChyderm Coalition. An overwhelming
plurality of his fellow Republican legislators have
also endorsed Verschoor for State Treasurer.
Verschoor also gained the enthusiastic endorsement
of Maricopa County Treasurer "Hos" Hoskins.
"Thayer Verschoor has a solid record of fiscal
responsibility. As Maricopa County Treasurer, I have
found him to be a stalwart advocate for the taxpayers
of this state. I look forward to working with Thayer
in his new role as State Treasurer as we continue our
efforts to protect taxpayer dollars," said Hoskins.
"I led the fight for the largest tax cuts in Arizona’s
history, advocated for reduced school administrative
costs & expanded school choice. I'm proud of my
record of accomplishments for Arizona. I will continue
my personal commitment to you as your Watchdog as State
Treasurer!", stated Verschoor.
"Here on Arizona Statehood Day, I ask all Arizonans
to join with me as we fight the unwelcome intrusion
of higher taxes, more fees and additional unnecessary
regulation into our daily lives by a bigger and bigger
government. As we approach the centennial celebration
of the State of Arizona, I believe that strong fiscal
leadership will lead to an era where our best days are
ahead of us. Together, we will restore fiscal sanity
to the state capitol and return Arizona to its rightful
position of unparalleled economic growth." Verschoor
continued.
